Clear Lake Fishing Report
5-26-10
Water - 2 -6 ft visibility 58-62*
The spawn is in full swing at Clear Lake with the water temps from 58 to 62 , a few days of warm weather should bring another wave of fish up.
The pre-post spawn bite has been good for me using Jigs Soft Plastics and Swim Baits fished in staging areas with some fish from 5 to 8 pounds and a bunch of 3 to 4 pounders.
Look for the top water bite to pick up soon
For me the key is to slow down and fish every piece of heavy cover flippin and pitchin shallow or fish swim baits, soft plastics and jigs in the staging areas for the pre-post spawners.
6-3-10
Water temp. 66 to 69 - 1 to 3 ft visibility
I fished my in my back yard, Cache Creek.
And the Red Bud arm the last few days.
Two largest were 5 and 6 pounds, the rest were small.. 3 pounders
The bite for me was very light, and I had to slow way down.
I fished Jigs, worms, swimbaits and some reaction.
Try flippin the heavy cover or fish the deeper breaks
6-5-10
Water temp - 66 to 72
Visibility Clear - 4 to 7 ft.
On Saturday I fished the Rattlesnake arm to State Park and caught around 20 fish using worms, Jigs and swimbaits. The bite was much better for me in the morning.
Monday and Tuesday I fished Rattlesnake and the Red Bud arm and had a slower bite and still got a lot of fish but it was a bit harder work.
I was flippin the heavy cover, thules, weeds, and fishing the deep breaks with Jigs and soft plastics, also I fished with swimbaits and some reaction baits around ambush points.
Most of the fish were only 3 1/2 pounders, kinda small but its still lots of fun to go out and catch a bunch of them.
6-16-10
Water temp, 69-74 -- Water clarity, stained 2 to 4ft visibility.
This last week I have been fishing the Red Bud and Rattlesnake arms to the Narrows.
The fishing has improved in the last few days and I'm catching some nice fish from 3 1/2 to 5 1/2 pounds on soft plastics, Jigs and frogs, and my friend Cody got a nice one on a crank bait and he got a 20 pound catfish on a split-shot.
I have been pitching the shallow cover, and fishing the Swimbait in the weeds. There is some action on the offshore rock piles that will improve when the bait starts to move around.
Tips, slow down, make accurate casts and fish every piece of cover thoroughly. Best colors for me have been green pumpkin, purple and black. For the Swimbait I have been fishing the Hippo Tackle 5" Shad or Hitch color with a 3/8th oz weighted hook to get it into the thick weeds.
Clear Lake July 2nd - 8th
Water Temp mid 70s to mid 80s
Water Clarity 1 to 4 ft
The fishing has been much better in the last week, and we are now catching an average of 15 to 20 fish a day. Still not to many big ones, lots of 2 1/2 to 3 pounders a few 4 pounders and a nice small mouth.
I am fishing plastic worms 4" to 7" Texas ridged and Dropshot. Jigs, and some Reaction Baits. In the weeds try Frogs, 5" Swimbaits, Sinkos and Swim Jigs. The best action for me has been in the weeds and thules. For reaction baits try Deep Cranks, Swimbaits, and Buzzbaits.
I have been fishing both the south and north parts of the lake and both are fishing well.
Have fun !
7-12-10
Water Temp mid 80s
Water Clarity 2 ft to zero
Fished the north end to the narrows the last couple days, we caught lots of fish up to 4 pounds. Most were strong fighting 3 pounders.
The bite was different both days, yesterday we got into a great swim bait bite, We caught them on the 6" Osprey and the 5" Hippo. We also caught fish on soft plastics, frogs and the shakey head.
I took out a guy (Chris) that wanted to learn how to catch them on swimbaits, well he flat out whacked them and I think he is addicted.
I was fishing the sinko with only 1 bite and he was throwing the swim bait and had a limit in about an hour once we found out how they wanted it.
We continued to run our pattern all the way down to anderson island and back up north.
Tips: We covered allot of water to find the fish and changed our presentation until we found out how they wanted it.
If you can get a pattern going it should work on most of the lake now. Each day the pattern has changed for me from a slow presentation to a reaction bite.
Have fun !

Water Temp: 79 - 82
Water Clarity 0 to 2 ft
The Fishing really has picked up in the last week with better numbers and larger fish.
In the last few guided trips I had a kid catch his first fish ever and another catch his biggest limit. Fish range from 3 1/2 to 5 1/2 pounds. On Saturday we had a 22 1/2 lb limit and over 20 fish in a 6 hour day fishing with soft plastics and some reaction baits.
I fished both the north and south end. In the south the algae is thick at the launch ramp but I was able to fish in cleaner water all week.
I found the fish to be grouped up and most of the spots we fished we could catch a bunch of them if we had patience and stayed on them.
Tips.. Fish slow, most of the bites are soft or just pressure.
Use your electronics to find bait and fish, If you find the bait the fish are close by. For the shallow bite flip the weed and shade pockets or throw the Frog. For deep fish keep an eye on your graph.
Have fun !
8-6-10
The bite really picked up last week, I was fun fishing and was able to catch some nice fish, the biggest was a fat 8 1/2 pounder, and then in the last two days I had to work hard for a decent limit. So any given day it can be great fishing or a lot of work.
I did much better when there was some wind, the silver sides are everywhere, I think the wind positions them on structure and then the bass are easier to catch.
I have been launching at Red Bud and the ramp and area has much cleaner water, also in the Rattlesnake side if there is some wind the algae gets moved around and it is easy to find clean water. Every day has been a bit different, I just run around and find clean water if the algae is giving me trouble.
Tips: For the deep bite fish slow and try Jigs, Shakey Heads, Texas ridged worms and drop shots.
For the shallow bite try 5" Sinkos or the 5" Hippo Swimbait, fish both in the weeds or along the weed edges and in shade pockets on docks.
For me, moving around until I found them was key.
Have fun !
Clear Lake, August 13th - 18th
Water Temp. 79-82
Water clarity. 0 to 1ft
Fished from the south end to mid lake, finding water with less algae this week was easy. Finding the fish on some days required some running around but when we found them they were easy to catch. Some days we caught lots of fish but a couple days it was tough to get a good limit.
Best 5 on Sunday went 23 plus pounds with a 8 pound kicker, on Tuesday 23 pounds and a 6 1/2 pounder. And a couple large catfish.
Fished Jigs, Flukes, Worms, and some Reaction. The best bite for me was deep but still caught some fish shallow.
Tips: The worm and jig bite was still light so be aware or they will spit it out before you can set the hook. Keep an eye on your electronics for bait and fish. If you find them and they dont bite keep going back during the day and most likely they will eat. I have been using tungsten weights for the worms and drop shot, I am addicted. Tungsten really helps to feel everything from wood to rocks, shells, etc.
Have Fun !

8-20-10
Water Temp 76 - 82
Water Clarity 0 to 2 ft
This last week was off and on, some days the fish were willing to bite and then some days it was tough to get a limit.
I fished mostly in the south but I did spend some time up north.
Our best fish were caught on the Ganesh Bug fished shallow, and also caught some nice ones on swimbaits and top water.
There was much less algae this week, some cooler nights and wind helped to break it up.
Tips: In the south try fishing deep with jigs and drop shots, up north try frogs or plastics. Try football jigs and drop shots
in the rocks close to breaks or on the deeper side of the ledge.
Fishing top water and frogs will work but you might have to cover allot of water and run around during the day. Timing is critical so recheck your spots during the day to see when the bite is the best.
Have Fun !

Clear Lake Sept. 8th 2010
Water Temp 70 - 75
Water Clarity 1-3 ft.
This last weeks fishing has been on and off again, we are still catching fish deep down south and some in the shallows up north. Average size has been strong fighting 3 to 4 1/2 pounders. A couple days I had a great frog bite going with fish up to 5 pounds.
Caught fish on Frogs, Jigs, Hippo Tackle 5" Swim Baits, Cranks and Worms, with the best size fish eating the Frog.
The cooler nights have cleaned up the algae and the lake is healthy with lots of baby bass and bait everywhere.
Tips: Cover allot of water, when you find them, slow down and fish the area throughly. Try and develop a pattern and you may be able to run it all day.
Have Fun !!
9-10-10
Water Temp 72-76
Water Clarity 2-4 ft.
I had some great days in this last week fun fishing in the south end, one day I had a 24lb limit and lost a couple nice ones, the rest of the week all I caught was a bunch of 3 1/2 pounders but still managed to hook a big one that came off.. Some days they are eating the bait well then some days they just bump it or dont commit to it as well.
I caught fish on Swim Baits, Jigs and Frogs.
Tips: Try the frog later in the day, fish the swim baits around ambush points and fish the jig in or around heavy cover.
Have Fun

Clear Lake Nov. 6th
Water Temp, 58-65
Water Clarity, 1-2 ft.
I fished up north the first part of the week and down south the end of the week catching good quality fish in both areas, I averaged 12 or more fish a day and most were 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 pounds with a couple larger ones.
There are still lots of good weed beds up north but hardly any in the the areas I fished in the south end.
I had to cover a fair amount of water to find the feeding fish but once located they were easy to catch.
I Caught fish on Swim Baits, Jigs, Spoons, Tubes, and Worms. I had to change up the baits to keep the schools biting.
A couple weeks ago I did well on top water and rip baits but this week it didn't work for me.
Not much has changed since the Triton Owners Tournament where we had a top 10 finish, but for me the bite is better in the south than it was a few weeks back.
In the north end I fish the thick weeds and weed pockets with the Hippo Tackle swim bait rigged weedless, on the edges of the weed beds I fish the osprey, both on 15lb McCoy Floro100.
In the south end the biggest fish ate the spoon and the best bait for numbers was the Jig. My favorite jig this time of year is the Persuader 1/2oz football in purple/brown.
For such a big lake it is fishing very small, for me it is all about finding a few good spots and throughly fishing them a few times throughout the day.
Tips. Cover water until you find feeding fish or see them on the graph, spend some time with them, if they dont bite check back throughout the day.
This time of year knowing how to read your graph will really pay off, A few times this week I would see them and then drop down the bait and catch them.
Have Fun!
Water temp. 48-52 Water clarity. 4 ft
Great weather and great fishing this last week on Clear Lake, The water level is up and the fish are biting, catching healthy and strong fighting fish from 3 to 5 1/2 pounds on Jigs / Shaky Heads and minnows, the LV 500 bite is also good and some fish can be caught on the medium size Swim Baits, both fished slow on the bottom in 5 to 18 ft of water.
I fished in the Red Bud arm and only had to fish a few spots, most of the fish had moved up from the deep rock piles to the first break on the shore line. the Jigs slow, and work them from 5 to 18 ft, most the bites came from the 12 ft range. The best time for me was around noon, I know there is a good Rip Bait bite up north to, i just had fun fishing the rocks down south. Lets hope this year will be wide open at Clear Lake !
Have fun
